Walk the Walk

My son walks to school every day, but this week it has been really cold so we have been driving. And to clarify, I mean it has been really, actually cold. Not like, “OMG, guys, it’s normally 76 year round and now it’s 59 degrees, where is my long underwear?!” Yeah, I’m talking to you, friends in SoCal. Today it was so cold that I had this conversation with my son: “Mom, why do you keep squeezing my cheeks?” “I’m just checking to make sure they are not frostbitten oh no TURN AROUND TURN YOUR FACE AWAY FROM THE WIND!”

Now that we’re driving to school, I miss walking with him and his buddies. It’s so nice to start the day listening to elementary school kids talk about their video games and iPhones and all the things that they love that did not exist when I was little.

In honor of my lovely morning walks, please enjoy. The hook of this song is so catchy that I don’t mind the sad lyrics about bad investments and ripping apart socialists. What? Who cares, take a walk.

Play It

This is NOT an attempt to get a free Cadillac, although I would totally take one and drive it like a bad ass, but I have seen this commercial a few times and can’t get enough of the song. Apparently it is Play It by Victory, and won’t be officially released until the spring. This makes me feel like I am on the cutting edge for loving a song that hasn’t even been discovered yet, but then I remember that a huge corporation probably found the song months ago. Dammit. Whatevs, take a listen, it is amazing. The dudes playing baseball in the dark and picking up a random guy on the side of a highway, not so much, but just close your eyes and enjoy.

UPDATE: looks like this is now available on iTunes. And I’m guessing it comes without the weird doorman cutting in at the end, but who knows.

Set Me Free

When I heard this song in the car last week, I pictured a bosomy, middle-aged woman singing. So imagine my surprise when I look up the video and discover that Ryan Lochte’s smarter looking twin sings it. Free is stuck in my head, and this guy looks too young to have this much soul, but good for him. Enjoy.

Winning

I was so happy to read this article today. I love the image of the dudes at the end of the article raising their hands all sheepishly when she asked who wants a sugar mama (OK, that wasn’t her question, but you know what I mean). I also forget that it wasn’t that long ago – like, my mom’s generation – that women couldn’t get a credit card without a man co-signing for it. What the what?!

Anyways. Today was a tough day at work, and I don’t feel great, and my dentist told me I have a cavity. I am feeling both old and crazy. These songs made me feel better, though. Enjoy.

World Without Love

You must hear this! I haven’t stopped thinking about this song since I heard it on the radio a few weeks ago. It’s so catchy and the lyrics and just…good. Watching this video makes me love it even more – can you imagine the chutzpah it takes (I’ve talked enough about balls lately, so I’m using the word chutzpah) to just sit down and sing for people in some random conference room (seriously, where is this filmed) with a keyboard and a dude playing guitar next to you? Anywho, prepare to have a new song in your head for the next week. You’re welcome.
